Product Application
The main application directio ns of hollow microspheres: aerospace, 5G communications, lightweight vehicles, building energy conservation, oilfield cementing, rubber elastomers, industrial corrosion protection, cosmetics, adhesives and other fields.
Application of hollow glass microspheres in adhesives
Hollow glass microspheres are lightweight, hollow, high-strength glass spheres with high strength/density ratio. They are suitable for silicone, epoxy, acrylic, polyurethane, synthetic rubber and other adhesives. Due to their own characteristics, they give adhesives a series of excellent properties:
Microsphere effect: minimum specific surface area, low oil absorption value, reduce resin dosage, make adhesives have lower viscosity; make adhesives have better fluidity and processing performance; isotropic consistency, so that the adhesive will not warp and shrink due to inconsistent stress after processing.
Glass material: has high chemical stability, does not react with substrates or other substances as fillers, and is suitable for a variety of systems;
Hollow sphere: low density, reduces adhesive density and volume cost; low thermal conductivity, so that the adhesive has the characteristics of heat insulation and low thermal conductivity;
Micron particle size: improves the rheological properties of the adhesive and improves thixotropy; small microspheres are filled into the gaps of large microspheres, thereby increasing their solid content and reducing VOC; easy to disperse, no agglomeration;
Other characteristics: can also produce a frosted effect to improve the wear resistance of the resin and the dielectric properties of the material;
White color, good color compatibility.
Application of hollow glass microspheres in anticorrosion coatings
Hollow glass microspheres can be widely used in weather-resistant anticorrosion coatings, automotive coatings, ship antifouling coatings, pipeline anticorrosion coatings, etc. It can play the following roles in coatings:
Reduce VOC: In the case of high addition, the viscosity of the coating does not increase significantly, which can reduce the use of various organic components in the coating, reduce the emission of harmful substances in the coating during use, and effectively reduce VOC indicators.
High fluidity: The spherical structure is similar to a ball bearing, which plays a lubricating role in the coating, thereby reducing the viscosity of the coating and increasing fluidity.
Low oxygen/water penetration: Hollow glass microspheres are composed of hollow spheres of different particle sizes, with a wide particle size distribution, which improves stacking performance, reduces porosity and slows down penetration speed, blocks circuit channels, isolates H20 and 02, and cannot produce electrolytes. Delay the attack time of rust and obtain good and stable long-term protection. The micron-sized particle size of hollow glass microspheres prevents the collapse of the coating, can increase the dry film thickness of the coating, and delay H0 and O: reaching the surface of the steel plate.
Reduce shrinkage and cracking: The perfect sphere and isotropic consistency reduce the warping and shrinkage of the coating due to inconsistent stress after film formation.
Barrier effect and inhibition effect: Hollow glass microspheres improve the dispersion and barrier effect of zinc powder. They capture ions and have an inhibition effect, preventing corrosion particles from penetrating downward to the surface of the substrate.
Application of hollow glass microspheres in building energy saving
Hollow glass microspheres are widely used in reflective thermal insulation coatings, giving them special functions. Reflective thermal insulation coatings become a new type of cooling coating with the functions of reflection, radiation and thermal insulation. The coating can efficiently reflect sunlight in the range of 400nm-2500nm, preventing the sun's heat from accumulating and heating up on the surface of objects, and can also radiate heat to dissipate heat and cool down, radiating the heat on the surface of objects into the air to reduce the temperature of the objects. At present, this kind of reflective thermal insulation coating is not only used in aerospace equipment, but also widely used in pipelines, oil storage tanks, industrial plants, large grain storage warehouses, etc.
Excellent performance of hollow glass microspheres in reflective thermal insulation coatings:
The reflectivity of hollow microspheres to near-infrared light is much higher than that of ordinary fillers. It can effectively reduce radiation heat transfer and conduction heat transfer to achieve the purpose of thermal insulation.
The hollow closed sphere and the closely arranged hollow glass microspheres contain rarefied gas inside. Their excellent thermal conductivity (0.038~0.085W/m.K) makes the coating have very good heat insulation effect.
The spherical structure is similar to a ball bearing, which plays a lubricating role in the coating, thereby reducing the viscosity of the coating and increasing fluidity.
It can adsorb nano-scale fillers, help disperse nano-scale fillers, prevent them from agglomerating and depositing, and make them more evenly dispersed in the resin emulsion.
Application of hollow glass microspheres in rubber elastomers
Hollow glass microspheres are micrometer-level hollow closed spheres with low density, high strength and low thermal conductivity. They are used in rubber and other elastomers to provide heat insulation, weight reduction and increased resilience.
Lightweight shoe materials
Hollow glass microspheres added to rubber can significantly reduce the specific gravity of shoe materials, making shoes more comfortable.
Industrial rubber
Filling for rubber layers of cables and communication optical cables, and filling for various rubber sealing rings, which are weight-reducing, flame-retardant and tear-resistant. Filling of household products such as latex pillows, latex mattresses, sofas and other household products with elastomer materials to increase the texture of the material and improve resilience.
Application of hollow glass microspheres in Epoxy Tooling board
Hollow glass microspheres are used in wood substitutes to improve their processing performance and provide excellent quality assurance for the manufacture of furniture parts, car models, shoe molds, tire molds, architectural models, decorations and sculptures.
Adding hollow glass microspheres can adjust the density of wood substitute products to a stable level.
Compared with ordinary mineral powder fillers, hollow glass microspheres have better fluidity and dispersibility, which can ensure the dimensional stability of products, reduce shrinkage and warping, and enhance the impact strength of products.
Application of hollow glass microspheres in lightweight transportation vehicles
Engineering plastics play an important role in lightweight transportation vehicles, and further lightweighting of plastic parts is also an important topic of technical research and development. Although the foaming method and thin-walling currently used have achieved some results, the decline in material properties limits its application. The hollow structure, glass material, and micron-level particle size of hollow glass microspheres make it a functional lightweight filler, which is used in modified plastics and composite materials such as SMC/BMC, giving the material a series of excellent properties:
Reduce specific gravity;
Improve the processing performance of materials;
Reduce shrinkage and warping, and maintain dimensional stability
Improve the rigidity of materials;
Improve product appearance and solve the problem of floating fibers;
Improve the surface hardness of materials and enhance scratch resistance;
Improve thermal insulation and noise reduction performance;
Reduce the amount of resin and reduce VOC
Improve flame retardancy and reduce smoke emission.
Application of hollow glass microspheres in 5G communication
5G communication uses millimeter waves with short wavelengths, poor diffraction ability, and large attenuation during propagation, so it is necessary to reduce the dielectric constant and dielectric loss of the material to improve signal transmission speed and efficiency, and reduce delays and losses. Hollow glass microspheres have a lower dielectric constant and dielectric loss due to their hollow structure, and can be added to the substrate as a low dielectric filler to improve the dielectric properties of the product. It can be widely used in materials such as 5G base stations and antenna covers, 5G mobile phone middle frames and backplanes, and Internet of Things devices.
Main dielectric properties of hollow glass microspheres:
Dielectric constant: 1.2~1.8
Dielectric loss: 0.003~0.006
Typical value of particle size D90: 10μm~μm
Strength: 16000psi~30000psi
Application of hollow glass microspheres in oilfield cementing
The low-density and high-strength mud system prepared with hollow glass microspheres is the main way to solve the low-pressure, easy-to-well cementing cement slurry leakage and low return. Advantages of cementing cement slurry prepared with hollow glass microspheres:

Application of hollow glass microspheres in oilfield cementing
Application of hollow glass microspheres in low-density drilling fluid and cementing slurry:
Advantages of low-density drilling fluid prepared with hollow glass microspheres:
Hollow glass microspheres are inorganic non-metallic materials, weakly alkaline, and very stable in nature. They can be added to various existing mud systems without reacting with various chemical substances in the mud, which can ensure the chemical stability of the drilling fluid;
Low density, high compressive strength, easy to prepare low-density drilling fluid, can be widely used in deep wells, and ensure constant density of drilling fluid;
Spherical, excellent fluidity, excellent lubrication, can reduce friction during drilling, can extend the service life of equipment such as drill pipes and drill bits, and can greatly increase drilling speed and improve operating efficiency;
